Chapter 2
Chapter 2: To the Farm
The next morning, Ned was awake first. "Guys, let's go find that farm," he said.
"Well, maybe we could find a better place that might not have any dogs and would want to adopt us," said Choo Choo.
"And I want to find a home in our same neighborhood," said Furry. "Then we could still play with our friends."
"Yeah, that would be nice," admitted Ned. "But let's still go find a farm. And then after we get some supplies, we can come back and play with our friends!"
"And guess what I remembered!" said Furry. "There's supposed to be a carnival coming to town this weekend. Let's make sure we are back for that!"
"Oh yeah!" said Ned. "And I heard they are having a dog play area in the carnival, too! We can't miss that."
Since they were all agreed on the plan, they set off to look for a farm. They walked past all the houses in their neighborhood, and came to the little market on the edge of town. "Hey!" said Furry. "Let's stop and check the garbage cans back behind the market!"
They went behind the market and found a little bit of uneaten ham and some cheese slices. Then they even found a thrown out dog biscuit. They put the ham and cheese on the dog biscuit, and shared it.
"This is like a doggie sandwich," said Choo Choo. "Yum!"
"Okay, now that we've had some breakfast, let's keep going," said Ned. They walked and walked as the houses and buildings got more rare and they went further into the countryside.
They had been walking for hours, when Ned said "Guys, I see some cows! I think this is a farm!"
"Let's go find a barn!" said Choo Choo.
"Hey, where are you going?" asked a spotted brown cow, chewing some grass.
"We are going to the barn," said Ned "Do you know which way it is?"
"Sure," she answered calmly, still taking bites of grass. "It's just past these pastures, on the other side of that hill."
"Thanks!" said Ned. "By the way, I see some good green grass just over there."
"Ooh, thanks!" she replied, and went over to eat it.
"The last one there is a rotten egg!" said Ned. The dogs raced up the hill and when they got to the top, they rolled down the other side.
There stood a big, red barn. The farmhouse was off in the distance surrounded by some trees. The dogs walked in and looked around.
They found some sheep napping in the hay and they went over there. Very sneakily the dogs went over to the sleeping sheep and carefully bit little pieces of their fur so that they could gather some wool and then they used their mouths to pick up some hay. They all put what they had gathered into a wheelbarrow that they could pull later.
When they want back outside, they saw some other dogs. They were golden retrievers. They were running around the farm playing tag. "Can we play, too?" asked Choo Choo.
"Yes!" said one of the golden retrievers.
They kept playing until they heard a tornado alarm. The golden retrievers showed the three dogs where to go "Follow us!" they said. And the three dogs followed them down into the storm shelter.
"I'm scared," said Furry.
"Don't worry, it will be ok," said Ned.
Next the farmer came into the shelter. He seemed surprised that there were more dogs than usual, but he liked dogs, so it was ok.
They all spent the night in the storm shelter until he storm had passed. Luckily there was some doggie food and treats in the storm shelter, and dog beds.
While they were in there, they all played games (like Duck, Duck, Goose) and sang songs (Old MacDonald Had a Farm, and some other songs). The storm came, but they were all safe and sound in the shelter, and having fun. When it got late, they all fell asleep.
By the next morning, the storm had passed, so Ned, Furry, and Choo Choo said goodbye to the farmer and the golden retriever farm dogs. The farmer gave them breakfast to take with them, and they got their wheelbarrow and set off for their old neighborhood.
