Chapter 1: Kicked Out

Once upon a time three dogs got kicked out of their house. "Why did they kick us out?" said Ned.

"I think they are getting some new show dogs, and they didn't want to keep us mutts around anymore," said Choo Choo sadly.

"Nah," said Furry, "I don't think they would do that. I think it's all that sneezing he was doing. She said he's allergic to dogs."

"Rats!" said Choo Choo. "And now it's starting to rain. Just our luck!"

"Guys," said Ned, "there's a box over there. Let's go over and see if we can fit in it." He went over and sniffed and checked it out. "Oh, look! There's three boxes, and they are all empty and big enough to hide out in."

The dogs all went over and explored the boxes. "Ned!" said Choo Choo, "We can't sleep here. I can't get comfortable enough. This cardboard is too hard to sleep on."

Furry said, "Well, it's raining too hard to leave now. Let's stay here for the night, and maybe in the morning we can go find a farm. They might have some hay we can sleep on, or maybe we can find some wool to make a bed."

"Okay," said Choo Choo. "But just for tonight, right?"

"Yeah. And maybe the farmer could adopt us!" said Ned, thinking of the farm they would find.

"Nah," said Choo Choo. "A farm would probably already have dogs, and they might not want any more."

"Well, you never know!" said Ned. And the three dogs, curled up and went to sleep, listening to the rain drops falling on their boxes.
